Louvers & Gable Vents

A gable louver, printed as “louvre” on the catalog plates, is the vent or the decorative face in the wall at the end of a gable roof. It is not a ridge vent, not a soffit vent, and not a roof turbine. It fills the triangle, arch, half-round, or peak under the rake.

Open louvers leave a passage between the slats so air can move. Closed louvers keep the outer shape and use a solid face, for a wall that should look like a vent and not act as one. Order the function you framed. Open belongs in a framed opening when that gable is part of how the attic breathes. Closed belongs where the wall is already sealed, or where the elevation only needs the profile.

Shapes are rectangle, round, half-round, triangle, arch-top, and round or oval with a keystone. A few catalog sizes: LOR 24 is a 24 inch round open louver, 20 inch inside diameter, 1-1/4 inch projection. LOHR 2416 is an open half-round, 24 by 16. LOT 2412 is an open triangle, 24 by 12. LCRT 1224 is a closed rectangle, 12 by 24, with 1-1/2 inch projection. The category also includes an attic access door with an open louver face, LOAD 2231, 22 by 31.

The parts are high-density polyurethane, water-impervious, factory primed, and ready to paint, for interior or exterior. Use PLP100 on every bedding joint and butt joint. Other adhesives can attack the urethane.
