Base Crown
Base crown is the smaller bed-style profile that finishes a cornice from below, or stands alone as a modest crown in a standard-height room. Every piece is factory-primed and paintable, and it installs with common tools and PLP100 adhesive.
What size crown to order
Crown fails when it is too small for the wall or too deep for the soffit. Height is the vertical face. Projection is how far it comes off the wall. Both numbers are on the cut sheet for that profile.
| Ceiling or eave | Crown height | Projection | Start with |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 ft | about 3–5 in | under about 4 in | Decorative crown, base crown, crown nosing |
| 9 ft | about 5–7 in | about 3–6 in | Crown with base, dentil crown, decorative crown |
| 10 ft | about 6–9 in | about 4–8 in | Crown with flat stock, box crown, fossil stone |
| 12 ft or an eave | 9 in and up | often 6–16 in | 2 step crown, boxed crown, dentil crown, concrete finish |
Confirm the cut-sheet height against the actual wall. These ranges are a start, not a substitute for the plate.
