7" Classic Railing System

7" Classic Railing System

7" Classic Railing System with white newel post, rails and balusters

The 7-inch Classic balustrade is our most popular porch and terrace railing. Its 7-inch-wide, 5½-inch-tall top and bottom rails give a full, traditional look on colonial, Georgian and Mediterranean homes. The rails come smooth, in Fossil Stone or in Concrete Finish, and every part on this page is made from paint-ready, high-density polyurethane that won't rot.

What goes into each railing section

  • Rails: one RAL2100T top rail and one RAL2100B bottom rail per section (8, 10 or 12 ft; cut to fit between posts). Use the -FS or -CF versions for a textured finish.
  • Balusters: 67 Spectis baluster styles whose own product listings say they fit the RAL2100 rail. Spacing is set by the 4-inch sphere rule.
  • Newel post and cap: NP2211 recessed-panel newel (8") topped with NC2332, or the NCOP 2100-13 cap made to match RAL2100T.
  • Newel posts that fit: 7¼", 8" posts (NP2200, NP2200A, NP2206, NP2206A, NP2211). A post fits when it is as wide as the rail or up to about 1" wider. For 135° angled posts, use the width of each face.
  • Installation pieces: SUP05 (4") or SUP06 (2") support block at mid-span, one KIR01 rail kit per top/bottom pair, and a KIN06-W (wood) or KIN06-C (concrete) newel anchor.

Picking baluster height

Target top-rail height Support block Baluster length needed (approx.)
30" 4" 15.0"
30" 2" 17.0"
36" 4" 21.0"
36" 2" 23.0"
42" 4" 27.0"
42" 2" 29.0"

Finished height ≈ support block + 5½" bottom rail + baluster + 5½" top rail. This is a planning estimate only. Check local code (typically 36" for homes and 42" for guards) and the drawing for each part before ordering. Rails end at newels, columns or walls and are never joined to one another.

Compatibility on this page is taken from the "rails that fit" information on each Spectis product listing and from the Spectis Balustrade Systems catalog.
