Deco Flex

Deco Flex

Deco Flex is the flexible version of these Spectis mouldings. It bends around a curved wall or ceiling where a rigid piece will not. It is for interior use only. For an outside curve that also has to live outdoors, that is Iron Flex, not Deco Flex.

Inside radius wall and outside radius wall, with width and depth marked

How to measure the curve

Measure the width and the depth, and say whether the moulding sits on an inside curve or an outside curve.

An inside radius is the moulding on the inner wall, wrapping a curve you stand inside. Width is the opening across the curve. Depth is how far that curve comes forward.

An outside radius is the moulding on the outer face of a curve. Width is across that outside face. Depth is how far the curve projects.

What it is for

Use it on crown, base, and half-round profiles when the wall or ceiling is curved. Order the same profile you would use on a straight run, and choose Deco Flex under moulding options. The piece is made to order.

Installing it

Pre-fit the piece before any adhesive. Deco Flex uses two products together. Solvent-based contact cement goes on the outer edges of the moulding and the wall or ceiling, and on every running joint and butt joint. After that cement has dried, PL Premium goes on the interior contact areas. Set the moulding from one end toward the other. Someone needs to help hold it. Nails or screws can support it while the PL Premium cures, about two days.

After it has cured, fill, prime, and paint. An oil-based primer and topcoat are the recommended finish. The flexible piece stays soft longer than a rigid moulding, so the paint takes more time to lose its tack. Do not hang weight on it after it is painted. The finish can crack.
