How to Install Spectis Gingerbread Gable Trim

Installation of Gable Gingerbread Trim with a Center Drop.

Typical installation: Gable Decorations are screwed to the soffit, the bottom board of the eave. The fascia (eave face board) usually overhangs the soffit by a small amount. Gingerbread Gable ends are normally installed below and immediately behind the fascia. That is, they are mounted out from the wall, suspended just behind the front edge of the eave. Scroll work should touch the Center Drop when installed.

Optional installations: If your fascia boards are 1-1/2" or more in thickness, you may prefer screwing Center Drop and Side Pieces directly to the bottom of these fascia boards. In this case only, you will remove the top flange of the Drop and bevel the top of the Drop to fit your gable angle. This may, however, make it more difficult to attach the Drop to the eave. This Drop modification may also be required if your roof is built without fascia boards.

1. Determine the Center Drop position. 

Position the rounded flange (at the top of the Center Drop piece) over the lower front edge of the eave fascia boards. The bottom of the notch (behind the flange) should be snug against the bottom of the fascia boards. 

Center the Drop on the eave. The Drop should hang plumb (straight down), which can be verified with a level. 

When the Drop is centered and plumb, mark the outline of the flange on the fascia boards. Also mark on the flange the best position for the screw(s) that secure the flange to the fascia. 

Due to the center joint between fascia boards, it is probably better to use two screws, one on each side of the flange. Screw the Drop in.

2. Pre-drill the Drop. While on the ground or a flat portion of the roof, pre-drill the rounded flange to accept the wood screw(s).

3. Install the Drop. Screw the flange of the Drop to the fascia boards.

4. Install the side pieces. Pre-drill the frames of the side pieces for screws, and then screw the side pieces into the bottom of the soffit, as shown in Fig. 3. If the fascia overhangs the soffit, the frames should rest just behind the fascia boards. 

The cutwork of the side pieces should fit tightly against the sides of the Drop.
